Am I an Entrepreneur?

See yourself at the very top?

I recently had a chat with a good friend and she said, "not everyone is cut out to be an entrepreneur", so true, but there is a bit of the entrepreneur in all of us, there is that subject that gets you excited, something you can totally commit to, you notice it, you think about it, you are passionate enough to want to do something about it and it could be as different for everyone as our DNA.

Not everyone will take the less travelled road of entrepreneurship though, I certainly agree that we are not all "cut out" for it, in fact a very tiny percentage of the world's population, just a fraction will actually take the steps necessary to go from dreaming to doing. Those who are totally compelled, unable to still the voice that urges them on and despite the fears, the compelling data of people who have dared and failed and the unrelenting voice that list all the reasons why it is better to be safe in the boat, they step out on the waters and dare to travel this path less trodden.

So are you an Entrepreneur? 

The following questions might give you an insight, an inkling and it might help you get started answering this very important question with some degree of clarity:

• Does your dream, idea or product concept consume you? You think about it constantly.

• Do you find yourself talking about it with anyone who will listen (and not listen) i.e. the cashier at the grocery store, the stranger on the bus or your colleagues?

• Are you constantly waking up in the middle of the night to write down possible sales strategies or product improvements ideas?

• Are you willing to sacrifice whatever it takes to bring this vision to life?

• Do you feel a twisting in your stomach that can only be explained as fear of failure, yet you just know you just have to try?

If you answer yes to at least 4 of these questions you are definitely one of the tiny percentage who are cut out to be an entrepreneur, but don't resign your day job yet!  Entrepreneurship is the hardest path you will ever have to travel and the dividends are often not commensurate with the investments (at least to begin with). Be absolutely sure that it is something you are ready to commit to and then take it one step at a time.
